For the last three months or so my meditation practice has been stale at about 15 minutes every morning while the coffee is brewing. I have tried to increased the amount of time that I practice in the past by adding a second session or extending my current session; however any change causes me to forget about what is working & then eventually give up on the extended session and then I have to struggle to get back into the original routine that I was trying to enhance.
Does anyone have any creative ways to increase the amount of time spent in meditation without risking ones existing practice?
Thanks, David S

try many shorter sessions in preparation for a longer session, or even take a ~break~ during the longer ones.
Additionally, once the mind has become accustomed to not wandering around willy-nilly, it is good to give it something in particular to focus upon (makes it feel useful), and for that the Lam Rim can be most execellent.

Re: Increasing Practice Time
Mon, April 30, 2007 - 8:25 AMhows about you don't stop meditating when you get up for your coffee ? Hows about you keep meditation whilst you walk down the road. Anything at all can be used as an adjunct to our 'spiritual practice'. In fact cleaving a division between our mundane world and our practice is part of the trouble ! Make no division and recognise everything as an aspect of practice. -

Re: Increasing Practice Time
Wed, May 9, 2007 - 12:18 AMEven 15 minutes a day is great. The important thing is to practice every day. Once you get into a habit of sitting regularly and meditation becomes a valued part of the daily routine, then you can start bumping up the eggtimer by one or two minutes a week or whatever, and before you know it you'll be right up there. And Daniel is right, bringing mindfulness to your life off the cushion is what it's all about. -

Sat, December 1, 2007 - 1:01 PMIndomitable perseverance
is the highest offering to my Guru.
The best way to please Him
is to endure the hardship of meditation!
Abiding in this cave, alone,
is the noblest service to the Dakinis!
To devote myself to the Holy Dharma
is the best service to Buddhism --
to devote my life to meditation,
thus to aid my helpless, sentient fellow beings!
To love death and sickness is a blessing
through which to cleanse one's sins;
to refuse forbidden food helps one to attain
realization and enlightenment;
to repay my Father Guru's bounties
I meditate, and meditate again.

This makes me feell whoozy... :-)
